A couple of weekends ago, we saw a great event advertised on Facebook. A collection of street food vendors all getting together and bringing their delicious offerings to an event space in Grey Lynn. Tucked away on a side street just off Richmond Road were a selection of food trucks and huge communal tables to enjoy it on.
The standout dish and one we would go back for again and again was the ‘Black Betty’ steamed bun from Judge Bao. ChinKiang black vinegar braised pork butt, sesame and spring onion encased in a soft perfectly steamed bun. The pork was juicy, succulent and so tender and the black vinegar marinade added a sharp, punchy kick.
Next up was the Beef Taco from Taco Loco. Topped with a spicy tomato salsa, a wedge of lemon and a handful of coriander this great tasting taco was dished up from a funky vintage caravan.
We also sampled the Chicken Taco which was also topped with the same spicy salsa and some red onion relish.
Getting increasingly full we knew we couldn’t leave without sampling the gyoza’s from Akemi’s Gyoza. We opted for the Pork and Garlic Chive which is the original dumpling based on Akemi’s grandmothers recipe.
Super full by now we still couldn’t resist some signature cakes from our friends at Mint. See our recent review of Mint Cakery here.
Also in attendance were Double Dutch Fries and Lalele Organic Gelato which we didn’t get chance to sample. Unfortunately because of the weather Napoli’s wood fired pizza were unable to attend but we are looking forward to sampling it next time.
The Dinner Club is going to be a regular event so do keep an eye out for more dates/times on their website foodspace.co.nz.
