After a one month hiatus, neighbourhood favourite Frasers has reopened in Mount Eden village. A much loved favourite of locals, they have had a stunning refurb carried out by the Two Right Group and now boast exposed brick walls, a slick bar area and a light and airy space.
Open seven days a week from 6am to 11pm, this bustling local can cater for hungry Aucklanders at any time of day. Whether for a coffee before work, a slice of cake in the afternoon or a three course meal, Frasers has it covered.
On the day we visited the place was buzzing with a queue of people waiting to be seated. The long bar area is a great place to soak up the vibe of the place and have a coffee while you wait for a table.
The menu is simple but with a unique spin. All the classics are there such as eggs benny and omelettes but with the choice to add a range of extras such as the hickory pork hock. The sign of a hugely busy café on a bustling weekend, they had unfortunately run out of the aforementioned pork hock but our choices of creamy mushrooms with goats cheese, market ceviche and salmon eggs benny soon made us forgive them.
The creamy mushrooms were truly elevated by the scoop of warm, sweet goats cheese on the top and the toasted bread was crisp with just the right amount of chewiness. The sauce didn’t drown the dish as is often the case with a creamy mushroom dish.
The Market Ceviche came very impressively presented and was light, fresh and zingy. The fish was beautifully soft and extremely fresh and the edible flowers added a touch of fun to the dish.
The Salmon Eggs Benedict came with two expertly poached eggs and a very generous serving of salmon. The Hollandaise again didn’t drown the dish but there was still a decent portion.
The bagel with avocado, cream cheese and tomatoes was crisp, light and made a perfect accompaniment to the light ceviche dish.
Your eyes will immediately be drawn to the dessert counter and we couldn’t leave without sampling a huge slice of the Baileys cheesecake. Make room for a slice, you won’t regret it.
So whether you’re grabbing a cup of Allpress on the go, or settling down for a dinner cooked by Bryan McGruer, who has previously worked at Jervois Steak House and The Grill by Sean Connolly, you can’t go wrong with Frasers.
